What we collect
Information you give us
- Order information. Name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, and payment details. Card numbers are handled by our payment processors and Shopify, and are not stored by us.
- Account information. If you create an account, your login details and order history.
- Subscription information. If you subscribe, the delivery schedule and billing details needed to keep it running.
- Messages. Anything you send us by the contact form, email, phone or social media.
- Reviews. Your name and whatever you write, if you leave a product review.
- Marketing preferences. Whether you have asked to hear from us, and how.
Information collected automatically
- Device information. Browser, IP address, time zone, and cookies on your device.
- Usage information. Pages and products viewed, what referred you to the Site, and how you move around it.
We collect this using cookies, log files, and web beacons or pixels. You can disable cookies in your browser, though parts of the Site may stop working properly.
Why we use it
- To take, process, pack and deliver your order, and to handle returns.
- To run subscriptions you have chosen.
- To answer you when you get in touch.
- To screen orders for fraud and to protect the Site.
- To send marketing, where you have agreed to receive it.
- To understand how the Site is used, so we can improve it.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
Our legal basis, and your consent
In Canada we rely on your consent, as required by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Placing an order is taken as consent to use your information to fulfil it. Marketing is separate: we only send it where you have given express consent, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us or using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Withdrawing consent for marketing will not affect orders you have already placed.
Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, we rely on performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in running and securing the business, and consent for marketing.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it with the following service providers, only so far as they need it to do their job for us:
- Shopify hosts the store and processes orders and payments. Shopify's privacy policy.
- Payment processors handle card and wallet payments through Shopify's checkout.
- Canada Post and any other carrier we use, to deliver your order.
- Seal Subscriptions manages subscription schedules and recurring billing.
- Judge.me collects and publishes product reviews.
- Stockist powers our store locator. It receives location queries, not order information.
- Google Analytics helps us understand Site usage. Google's privacy policy, and you can opt out here.
- Email and marketing tools we use to send the messages you have asked for.
We may also disclose information to comply with the law, to respond to a lawful request, or to protect our rights.
Your information is stored and processed in Canada and the United States, and may be accessible to authorities in those countries under their laws.
Advertising
We may show you advertising based on your interests. You can opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative, or directly with Facebook and Google.
We do not currently change what we collect in response to a Do Not Track signal from your browser.
Your rights
Everyone
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent. Email support@trueleaf.com. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are in Canada
PIPEDA gives you the right to access and correct your information and to challenge our handling of it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
If you are in the United States
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what we collect, to have it deleted or corrected, to a copy of it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in exchange for payment. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, email support@trueleaf.com.
If you are in Europe or the United Kingdom
You additionally have the right to object to processing, to restrict it, to data portability, and to complain to your local supervisory authority.
How long we keep it
- Order records: seven years, which is what Canadian tax and business record rules require.
- Account information: for as long as your account is open, and then up to two years.
- Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe, and then only what is needed to honour that request.
- Messages: up to two years after your question is resolved.
- Analytics: as set by the retention controls in the tools above.
We may keep information longer where the law requires it, or to resolve a dispute.
Keeping it secure
The Site runs over an encrypted connection, and payment details are handled by Shopify and our payment processors rather than stored by us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and to limit who can see it.
Children
The Site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices, or for legal or operational reasons. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
